27/ “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
28/ bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
29/ If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.
30/ Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.
31/ Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32/ “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.
33/ And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.
34/ And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.
35/ But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
36/ Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
These are hard lessons to flesh and blood. But if we are thoroughly grounded in the faith of Christ's love, this will make his commands easy to us. Every one that comes to him for washing in his blood, and knows the greatness of the mercy and the love there is in him, can say, in truth and sincerity, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? Let us then aim to be merciful, even according to the mercy of our heavenly Father to us.
There is SOUND reason for the above instruction, most of it pertaining to maintaining health, PEACE, and well-being THAT one is not imprisoned by negatives which take from the work before us, and the WORSHIPING of THE LORD. Hatred, animosity, and other such, create poison in the being, which overtakes the heart, the mind, the senses, the body, and thus, leaves one in a state of weakness, with increased probability of sinning, as the poison festers, and swells, diverting one from *GOD* to all sorts of unaligned thoughts, actions, and reactions! As it is said above in the commentary, these are hard lessons to the flesh and blood, but we are renewed in THE LORD, and exist in spirit, and so, while it is a difficult process, because we LOVE THE LORD, and understand our place in HIM, we STRIVE to adhere to HIS WISDOM, and HIS WILL. This is one a large part of picking up our daily cross, and YES, there are times when it is nearly impossible because of the evil done, but as HE has said, 'be merciful, just as your FATHER is merciful...
HE KNOWS we are capable of this kind of growth, otherwise HE wouldn't expect it of us! We must ALWAYS try to get past our humanness, and reach deep into the spirit, which is guided by HIS SPIRIT, and always, when it is too tough, we only have to come to HIM, and ask for HIS assistance, and guidance...
THE LORD cries when something awful happens too, and yet, HIS LOVE remains intact! KEY is to LOVE as HE LOVES, and to remember that one day, the FAITHFUL to the end, will be recompensed exceedingly, and those who spread evil, and wickedness will be repaid in full! HE says all vengeance is HIS, and that we should WAIT on HIM!!! PRAY for STRENGTH, and understanding, while TRYING to develop what HE teaches, for it IS for our good, our health, our well-being, and our safety, and HIS GLORY, as we ARISE to SHINE of HIM no matter what! PRAISE HIM ALWAYS, WORSHIP HIS HOLINESS, REJOICE IN HIS LOVE, and FOLLOW HIM to the letter, in the best of capacity, and understanding! TRUST HIM, and HIS WISDOM, HE IS THE MOST HIGH *GOD*, LORD, and KING!!!

A most remarkable demonstration of the LOVE we should embrace from CHRIST our LORD, is Pope John Paul II, who was the victim of an assassination attempt in 1981. After recuperating somewhat, this Pope went to meet his would be assassin, and forgave him, sincerely. They developed a Friendship, and the Pope even visited with this Man's Family, at times over the years! Pope John Paul II EXEMPLIFIED PERFECTLY, the LOVE CHRIST bids us to have, and TAUGHT the Man the TRUTH VIA this LOVE, because the LOVE was ALIVE, ACTIVE, MERCIFUL, and FORGIVING...
It is IN this kind of LOVE that we leave CHRIST in the presence of those who oppose HIM, or are unsure of HIM, and so forth!!!
