This week we enter into a most HOLY season, celebrating the incontestable GIFT of LOVE, CHRIST JESUS' death to expiate our sinfulness! This season kicks off with Shrove Tuesday, or, as known in some regions, Fat Tuesday, or, Fat Thursday, marked by eating Pancakes, or, Paczki's, which are gooey-fruit filled, or, creme-filled, doughnut like pastries! The pancakes, or, paczki's are chosen, because, for Lent, many people give up indulgences of various foods, and, especially with the pancakes, were made with what was on hand, at the time!!!
For 40 days, and, 40 nights, CHRIST went into the desert, and, without food, or, drink, was tempted, blatantly, by Satan! CHRIST never faltered, but, I am glad that HE went this route, as, surely, HE found out EXACTLY what humanity is up against, and, the degree to which, we might break under the pressure! How awesome is it that *GOD* covered all issues, instances, conditions, circumstances, and, consciences, BEFORE HE came to Minister to the people! Fascinatingly perfect!!!
Thus, Lent marks these 40 days, and, 40 nights, beginning with Ash Wednesday, and, ending HOLY Thursday: the six Sunday's are not counted into the time frame, for they are considered 'mini-Easters', celebrating CHRIST'S victory, over sin, and, death! In this time, we are to fast, to become reverent, and, reflective, of our lives this far, that, we take to heart, this most amazing GIFT, expiation for our sins, through the death of CHRIST, which, hopefully, will, further align us TO *GOD*, in greater understanding, and, embracing OF HIS WILL!!!
Most people, for Lent, give up that which, they KNOW they can survive without for 40 days, and, 40 nights, such as meat on Fridays, or, sweets, and, so on! SOME are able to give up things which, will do them good, long after Easter, but, generally, what is given up, is within the limits of safety, to ensure that we are successful in abstaining!!!
I LOVE EASTER! It has ALWAYS been my favourite HOLYDAY! It is a time of going deeper into devotion, into the self, and, for remembering, with LOVE, the most amazing GIFT ever known, the GIFT of LOVE, our SAVIOUR, CHRIST JESUS, who came to save us, from ourselves, and, the elemental rulers, and, authorities of this troubled world! From Childhood, the stories, the pictures, the colours, the celebration, itself, has touched me, deeply, and, had impact upon my soul! PRAISE *GOD* for such a LOVE!!!
This period of Lent is NOT observed by ALL Christians, though, it is gaining in more denominations, and, is celebrated differently, by some! I, personally, am non-denominational, but, celebrate it, because it is right, by my understanding, to do so!!!
LOVE IS the reason for CHRIST JESUS' arrival to carry us, through an incorruptible Covenant, back to *GOD*! There are MANY components TO this season, one of which is abstinence, which is, key to this season, to a walk with *GOD*, though, as I said earlier, we keep that within safe limits! To DEFEAT temptation is the reason behind abstinence, and, so, the posts I share, during this most HOLY season, will discuss much of what lies behind the problems associated with the human condition, certainly, temptation being at the top of the list, because, when we LEARN, or, TRAIN ourselves to RESIST temptation, we are one step closer to the REALITY of WHO we are, *GOD'S* Children!!!
