There are all sorts of prayers; prayers for Praising, comfort, guidance, protection, healing, command prayers, generational prayers, and, well, the list goes on! Prayer is individual, though, there are countless standardized prayers to help us to pray, and, to teach us how to pray! All in all, though, the LORD'S Prayer, and, PSALM 23, are mighty prayers, which should be a part of our daily prayers!!!
Let's begin by defining, to a degree, what prayer is, and, opening up to the world of prayer!!!
Definition of PRAYER (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
1a (1) : an address (as a petition) to God or a god in word or thought(2) : a set order of words used in praying b : an earnest request or wish
2: the act or practice of praying to God or a god
3: a religious service consisting chiefly of prayers —often used in plural
4: something prayed for
5: a slight chance
(word iQ) Prayer is an effort to communicate with a God, or to some deity or deities, either to offer praise to the deity, to make a request of the deity, or simply to express one's thoughts and emotions to the deity.
There are a variety approaches to understanding prayer:
The belief that a god listens to prayer, and may or may not respond;
The belief that prayer is intended to inculcate certain attitudes in the one who prays, rather than to influence a god;
The belief that prayer is intended to train a person to focus on a god through philosophy and intellectual contemplation;
The belief that prayer is intended to enable a person to gain a direct experience of a god;
The belief that prayer is intended to affect the very fabric of reality itself.
The existence of prayer is attested in written sources as early as 5000 years ago. Anthropologists believe that the earliest intelligent modern humans practised something that we would recognize today as prayer.
There are also varying definitions of prayer, but, the gist is stated in the above definitions! Most individuals since the beginning of time, have SOME sort of ritual which could be defined as prayer, so, it is easy to assume the prayer is almost a supernatural action, intrinsic to the human spirit, and, mind...
Praying to *GOD* opens up to an intimate, personal relationship, in which we reveal our innermost thoughts, regrets, needs, actions, and, repentance's, as well as, commune with HIM on a REAL level, which, indicates that we TRUST HIM to listen, and, aid us! HOWEVER, many, many people do NOT have the kind of FAITH it takes to have the patience necessary to see prayers answered/manifested! FAITH is CRUCIAL to praying, and, cannot be in part! FAITH must be cultivated almost hourly, in order for it to withstand many factors! And so, along with learning about prayer, we must also develop a FAITH which is unshakable, that our prayers ARE going to be considered by our FATHER who art in Heaven!!!
1 JOHN 5:14-15...

And we have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours.
The above Scripture clearly defines FAITH! Yet, there is a KEY bit of information in verse 14: IF WE ASK ANYTHING 'ACCORDING' TO HIS WILL! You see, this is where people trip up, get confused, become despondent, and even, give up! They do not know enough about *GOD* to understand HIS WILL, which IS more imperative than anything else, for it IS by HIS WILL, that all exists in the first place, AND, works together towards fulfilling HIS WILL! LOTS of people fail in this area of understanding, and so, are left without regard for what has, or, has not occurred via prayers!!!
I work on my FAITHFULNESS daily, partly because, the more FAITHFUL you become, the more the deceiver tries to make that FAITH falter, but, mostly because, I WANT to be as close to *GOD* in the NOW as is feasible, not just to receive answers, but, to be as aligned to HIM as I can, that I am, daily, becoming more worthy of being a member of the body of the Church, CHRIST JESUS! Also, I take time to consider how CHRIST would have me to act, and, react, that, hourly, I develop in character, endurance, strength, courage, Wisdom, knowledge, fortitude, LOVE, and, all of the positives which are natural to HIM, HIS WAYS, and, HIS WILL!!!
I am not HOLY, though I am privy to HOLINESS, THROUGH HIM! I am not close to being HOLY, but, I will never relent in attempting to have some of HIS HOLINESS rub off on me, that I am more secure in the end! And, so I can fulfill HIS WILL for MY life, while pleasing HIM!!!
It is written that prayer is a powerful tool, and so, isn't it wise to learn to pray for yourself, that you are communing with *GOD* on a real, and, personal level? That you are comfortable having HIM as your source for ALL which pertains to your life? That you can release to HIM all which MIGHT trip you up? That you KNOW where to turn for what you need? That you are better enabled to withstand the woes of life? That HE IS GLORIFIED through you???
