There are, at least, 14 such references to divorce, both in the OLD, and, NEW TESTAMENTS. Divorce is indicative of living in the flesh, as often, divorce is sought for selfish reasons, and, uncontrolled desires! There, of course, are instances of dangerous Marriages, though, *GOD* WILLS that two, whom, have become one, remain in that AVOWED state...
Moses, because of the wrongs being committed before *GOD*, decreed certain types of divorce, but, CHRIST JESUS changed that back to it being detestable!!!
Part of the reason, is because people have, since the beginning, been unfaithful TO *GOD*, and so, HE has had to experience our infidelities, firsthand, and, because HE DEFINED Marriage as two, becoming ONE, in which case, there is NO standard for separation of the two, just as it SHOULD be between us, and, HIM!!!
Then, there is the fact that MANY people get hurt in the divorce process; in the onset, and, long after! The partners divorcing, suffer, their Children suffer, their Families, and, Friends suffer, and, generally, there are various problems with new partners, because of the old partners, and, with their Children, Families, Friends, and, so on! *GOD* doesn't allow for any unnecessary pain, anguish, and, suffering of HIS people, especially, when it could have been avoided, BY COMPLYING TO HIS WILL! HE SAID, and, so it IS meant to be!!!
Most of the world, since the beginning, until now, has ignored HIS wishes where Marriage is concerned, and so, FEW are without fault! However, there are certain generations in the history of Mankind, whom, have gone the distance in disobeying HIM, and, the current ones, are such! Divorce is as common as water, in our societies! We are NOT taught the seriousness of the SACRED VOWS, between Man, and, Woman, nor, the consequences of slighting these VOWS! We believe, largely, that we are, automatically forgiven for divorce, though, from the sternness of HIS precepts concerning Marriage, and, divorce, I wonder why...
People can't control their emotions, desires, lusts, passions, or, obviously, their egocentric beings, and so, give in, easily, to many factors, which, bring on the wish for divorce! People get bored, tired, and, other things, which, like it, or not, fall into selfishness! People fall out of LOVE, not realizing that time working together, will reignite the LOVE! People fail to understand that, IF they endure their commitments, *GOD* WILL help them through the tough spots!!!
We RUSH into Marriage, and, when things get tough, we are even quicker to exit! We Marry too young, and, have little idea of WHAT comprises Marriage! While there are classes for the excited engaged, these are very basic, though, they SHOULD lend some light on what is expected of Married couples!!!
I NEVER knew divorce was against *GOD*, until it was too late! No one ever spoke of this in Churches that I attended, and certainly, it was never discussed amongst people! Families OUGHT to teach each generation, as should the Churches, but alas, the important matters of *GOD'S* WILL, are often, swept under the rugs of homes the world over! I WISH I had been taught, as I was one who RUSHED in, then, out of Marriage, and, my few reads of THE WORD, were NOT in the right frame of mind, or, understanding, being as young as I was; plus being raised in a society, in which, divorce was/is the norm!!!
MARK 10:2-12...
2/ The Pharisees approached and asked, "Is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife?" They were testing him.
3/ He said to them in reply, "What did Moses command you?"
4/ They replied, "Moses permitted him to write a bill of divorce and dismiss her."
5/ But Jesus told them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment.
6/ But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.
7/ For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother (and be joined to his wife),
8/ and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two but one flesh.
9/ Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate."
10/ In the house the disciples again questioned him about this.
11/ He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her;
12/ and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery."
MARRIAGE IS HEALTHY, divorce is NOT! EVERYTHING that IS OF *GOD*, IS HEALTHY, what is NOT of HIM, is NOT! This is the bottom line in ALL matters under the sun, and, evermore shall be, because HE, ALONE, IS THE AUTHOR, and, THE CREATOR of ALL in existence! HIS instructions, and, precepts exist, NOT to bring us down, or, to deny us, INSTEAD, to INCREASE us, our lives, and, our happiness! ALL which brings us down, is NOT of *GOD*, for HE ELEVATES ALL within HIS MIGHTY SPAN!!!
1 PETER 1:25...
but the word of the Lord remains forever." This is the word that has been proclaimed to you.
ISAIAH 40:8...
