Years ago, in my youth, I would scoff at the Wisdom's concerning idleness, but, since I have grown, AND, I have SEEN, even FELT the product of idleness, mostly through others, I can attest to the significance of the Wisdom on idleness! Let us look at some of the Scriptures concerning being idle...
1 TIMOTHY 5:13...
13/ Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also busybodies who talk nonsense, saying things they ought not to...
2 THESSALONIANS 3:6...
6/ In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers, to keep away from every brother who is idle and does not live according to the teaching you received from us...
2 THESSALONIANS 3:11...
11/ We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies...
There is more, but, the gist of this subject lies in the fact that when we are idle, our carnal mind, the deception of life, becomes bored, then, mischievous! Boredom breeds all sorts of scenarios, from gossiping, to committing unhealthy acts, to imagining things which are not, to stirring up trouble, to meddling in other's affairs, and, well, one can see where this is going!!!
It is expected that we will have idle time, however, we are to use our idle time wisely, productively, and, for the furthering of our being, body, mind, and, spirit, that we are all the closer to our *GOD*! We should never allow idle time to become as a virtual instigator, not, in any way!!!
Idleness creates procrastination, dissension, frustration, laziness, and, all sorts of NEGATIVES, which ARE unhealthy for the entire being, and, can lead you AWAY from *GOD* very quickly; in fact, can take you down as does quicksand! So, when we have idle time, we are to use this time to further the overall health of our being, and, to aid others!!!
Productivity is inclusive to being a slave/servant of *GOD*, our LORD, and, SAVIOUR! The more we strive for perfection of being, the better example we are for our Brothers, and, Sisters! And, the more helpless people are provided for!!!
What does it serve to be idle for many hours of the day, even IF you are in a position where idleness is part of your life? Don't you know that you can yet be productive without having? You see, I have been there too, and, I KNOW, for sure, that when you are down, and, out, the idleness which accompanies those times, WILL surely take you down, and, under, IF you do not nip it in the bud, which will keep you there longer than necessary! Instead, even if your home is the desert floor, and, you have no tangible proof of responsibility, you DO have responsibility to *GOD*, and, to self, and, to ANYONE whom might be near you! See, you could entertain, you could encourage, you could build UP the lives of others who are suffering as do you! In this way, you are taking that idle time, and, turning it into something productive, thus, you are living in regard to HIS WAY!!!
Here is one example of the destructive nature of idleness: billions of people are sitting at the Internet these days, being as idle as can be! Some are TRYING to be productive with their time spent at the computer terminal, but, will eventually, become bored, complacent, or, sucked into the vacuum of restlessness associated with too much time spent here, and, the result of such can lead one to many negative actions, even harming others along the way! Some have been harmed to great extents, emotionally, and, psychologically! People have committed suicide from being the victim of idle people, whom, have chosen to have nothing better to do than to destroy the lives of others, in any way they can, just to entertain themselves, vent their own dissatisfaction, and, so forth! This is so very sad, and, so against life, and, could be considered in the HOLY realm, as a sort of murder, for one who drives one to that much anguish, has surely done as much as the murderer! You cannot justify harming another to the point of them taking their own life, you, simply, cannot! It is not funny, it is not right, it is just plain evidence of what idleness does to people, IF they allow it to!!!
Life is about being busy! It is about productivity! It is about ARISING from the shackles which chain us to unhealthiness! It is about, more than anything, PLEASING *GOD* OVER SELF, and, then, taking care of others! Idle people cannot hope for anything for they have nothing to advance their state! They become so involved in the mind, that they forget about the spirit, and, the body, and, the good they could be doing, for themselves, and, for others! They become as the pus of a blister, which, unattended, can become quite painful, when, in fact, the only reason there is pus is because of lack of attention, care, and, measure to heal it!!!
Your life is yours to live, or, not, even though your life TRULY belongs to *GOD*! Out of HIS LOVE, you have free will! You can choose to be productive, happy, and, healthy, or, you can choose to be idle, in some ways, or, all ways, which leads to an unhealthy state of existence! I pray you choose rightfully, for your sake, and, for the sake of others, and, especially, for the sake of LOVE, our LORD, our *GOD*!!!
