Living in *GOD* involves many things, but, one thing is imminent; we MUST be FRUITFUL in our walk with HIM! Being fruitful implies DOING, PRODUCING, and, ACTING in HIS WAYS! It means that we must, on a daily basis, bring forth LOVE, PEACE, TOLERANCE, PATIENCE, ACCEPTANCE, FORGIVENESS, COMPASSION, and, all other virtuous actions which HONOUR HIM, and, SHOW the world that you DO walk with HIM!!!
Many are idle in their relationship with *GOD*, having learned that they are AUTOMATICALLY saved by baptism! IF such people HAVE read the WORD, they know that FAITH is ONE PART of the equation, but, FAITH without WORKS is the same as having NO FAITH at all! This is not always the individuals fault, instead, the fault of those teaching, for they are not reaching deep enough into the imperative messages entrusted to them! It is dangerous, as, there ARE LOTS of souls at risk, meaning that through ignorance, many will be lost on that final day!!!
Now, about idleness; there is quite a bit of reference to being idle in the BOOK, as, idle people fall into all sorts of traps (sin), unknowingly, which will cost them in the end! Idleness leads people to become judgemental, to gossip, to slander, and, all sorts of other things...
Here are some Scriptures concerning idleness:
1 Timothy 5:13...
13 Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also busybodies who talk nonsense, saying things they ought not to...
Ecclesiastes 10:18
18 By much slothfulness the building decays; and through idleness of the hands the house drops through...
Matthew 20:6
6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and said to them, Why stand you here all the day idle?
Idleness leads to demise, in many ways; it is unhealthy for the body, mind, and, soul, and, for various parts of one's life! For instance, an idle Woman's house will become unkempt, dirty, and, void of the touch of the LOVE within her heart; eventually, that unkempt house will lead her away from caring about it at all, then, it will gradually become worse, and, worse, while she, being bored from being idle, will find outside sources to entertain, and, uplift herself, often causing problems, even scandal, all because she thought not of her responsibility to *GOD* first, but, to self!!!
Idleness takes the intellect away from sound reasoning, and, places one in a sort of dreamland, which is like an open invitation for the evil of the world to step right in!!!
ALL ancient sayings concerning idle hands (minds), state that the devil comes to play, making the idle person his puppet, if you will! There is reason for this thought, as, ANYTHING that you do, or, do not do, which is NOT IN ALIGNMENT WITH *GOD* is living in the world, therefore, your soul is at risk!!!
This is probably why it is written that even on the Sabbath day, we are to meditate upon *GOD*, and, ALL *GODLY* things, as the deceiver, that old devil, would surely, love to infiltrate into the minds of the devout!!!
I have been idle before, so, I KNOW what I am talking about! I discovered a year, or so ago, the dangers of being idle, through my addiction to the Internet, and, have since re-aligned my priorities, that I am not endangering the steps I have taken thus far to walk with *GOD*! At ALL times, *GOD* is to be FOREMOST in our thoughts, and, actions, otherwise, we are NOT living in HIM, thus, we are living in the world, which is, clearly stated, living in sin, removing us from GRACE! When people become idle in their work FOR *GOD*, then, there are prices to pay, it is true! The farther you go from *GODLINESS*, the more your life suffers; think about it!!!
Today, I am a busy person, I do allow myself SOME downtime, but, even most of this time is spent with *GOD*! I do listen to muzik, and, write, even socialize, a bit, but, I DON'T allow myself to become entangled in the social snares, BECAUSE, I have LEARNED the damages, and, dangers, from experience!!!
Our society is one which contains lots of oddities; it is difficult to make friends these days, and so, people flock to the Internet, finding it easy to make them! However, this requires much time, and, dedication to cultivating said friendships, which takes away from our families, homes, and, other things which are way more healthy, and, realistic than spending time on the 'Net! We must ALWAYS maintain BALANCE, and, a sense of priority in ALL we do; anything that becomes obsessive, or, takes us away from our innate responsibilities, is, plainly, unhealthy, and, dangerous to the end, of which, we have NO IDEA WHEN this will come to be!!!
Idleness is that which can wipe out ALL good we have done this far, and, which can chain us to inequity, therefore, it is against the grain of *GODLINESS*, and, should be considered in respect to our expectations of GRACE!!!
Think about this: ALL of nature is constantly busy, even babies are pro-active! Thus, it was designed/CREATED by *GOD*, whom, DEFINITELY is active 24/7, even BEFORE CREATION itself! Busyness does not mean that we have to wear ourselves out, instead, it means, we should read, meditate, and, do that which is to HIS GLORY!!!
