Wait on THE LORD! This is a mindset driven by FAITH, and a characteristic/behaviour of FAITHFULNESS! We should be able to calm the being, and rest IN THE LORD *GOD*; trusting HIM, and RELYING ON HIM in EVERY matter under the sun---
There are varying degrees, and instances of 'waiting on THE LORD', yet all of them have one end result, HOPE restored, and PROMISES fulfilled, even though this might, or might not happen in the moment...
Let's explore some of these measures of 'waiting on HIM':
It is for the Lord that my soul waits, for the gifts of his grace, and the working of his power. We must hope for that only which he has promised in his word. Like those who wish to see the dawn, being very desirous that light would come long before day; but still more earnestly does a good man long for the tokens of God's favour, and the visits of his grace. Let all that devote themselves to the Lord, cheerfully stay themselves on him. PSALM 130: 5...
Wherever the believer is, he can find a way to the throne of grace by prayer. God calls us by his Spirit, by his word, by his worship, and by special providences, merciful and afflicting. When we are foolishly making court to lying vanities, God is, in love to us, calling us to seek our own mercies in him. The call is general, Seek ye my face; but we must apply it to ourselves, I will seek it. The word does us no good, when we do not ourselves accept the exhortation: a gracious heart readily answers to the call of a gracious God, being made willing in the day of his power. The psalmist requests the favour of the Lord; the continuance of his presence with him; the benefit of Divine guidance, and the benefit of Divine protection. God's time to help those that trust in him, is, when all other helpers fail. He is a surer and better Friend than earthly parents are, or can be. What was the belief which supported the psalmist? That he should see the goodness of the Lord. There is nothing like the believing hope of eternal life, the foresights of that glory, and foretastes of those pleasures, to keep us from fainting under all calamities. In the mean time he should be strengthened to bear up under his burdens. Let us look unto the suffering Saviour, and pray in faith, not to be delivered into the hands of our enemies. Let us encourage each other to wait on the Lord, with patient expectation, and fervent prayer. PSALM 27: 7-14...
IN this we find the 'stillness' of the soul which *GOD* bids of us, and the humility necessitating HIS WILL! It is actually a daunting existence since we KNOW it is SO difficult for us to quiet the being, and focus on one thing, let alone exclusively on HIM! But, as we GROW INTO HIM, it becomes more natural, and easier, and certainly, more beneficial...
In this Advent season, we prepare our hearts, minds, bodies, and souls FOR THE LORD, and HIS BLESSED PROMISES unto us! We RENEW our commitment TO HIM, and our JOY to SERVE HIM, and others, as LOVE further fills our beings, and provides where the world fails, and we REJOICE in the PEACE HE GIVES...
Let us PRAISE, and WORSHIP THE LORD *GOD* ALMIGHTY, and let us HONOUR HIM in ALL our ways, for the rest of our days, AS we go forth SURE, and ASSURED IN HIS NAME! AMEN!!!
