It is good to be aware, and to be informed, but solely for the purposes of safety, understanding, and glimpsing into what areas we might be able to help, or be of use! TOO much of anything is as a trap, and especially when it comes to matters of the world! We are TAUGHT to KEEP our minds on that ABOVE, and not on the world! The news of the day is so extensive, and filled with SO many wrongs, we are compelled by it; just look at the thousands of international dialogues going on at any given second, in which case, there are more wrongs being done, and fuel being added to fires...
In obsession for the news of the hour, the day, the week, for many, comes a wide array of thoughts, actions and reactions, often, not aligned, which create even more problems as people lash out at one another, tend to imagine they have solutions, and on it goes! In the news is sadness, anger, frustration, and every negative common to this world, and I CAN SEE WHY *GOD* says to think of that ABOVE, because there IS potential to ensnare us!!!
We ought to be aware of what is going on, but we must balance at the same time, as we are only as effective as the freedom to be so, for you see, when we are overly entangled in any thing, we lose perspective, and the ability to REMAIN IN THE LORD! Fear, and other OPPRESSIVE factors are unleashed when we spend too much time in certain matters of the world, which endangers our stance, as we respond to what is at hand, generally in a human way, instead of in the spirit!!!
I never used to do the news at all, but it is necessary to know the state of the world, and so, I do take in the events of the day, but it doesn't always agree with my spirit, and tends to bring me down, as well as causing me to think things I shouldn't, though I rush to step out of the funk it creates, through PRAYER, and turning to THE LORD! How awful the state of the world today, and it isn't getting any better, but I SEE, for sure, HOW this CAN be a trap! Endless ARE the tactics of the enemy, and his use of the news, the Internet, and other medias IS adding to the problems at hand, AS people get more involved, and fired up by such!!!
At any second, there ARE hundreds of thousands of people SO wrapped up in discussions, arguments, and so forth concerning what is happening, that they wouldn't be prepared IF something should occur in their world to endanger them further! WHEN people are SO enmeshed in any thing, they are NOT mindful of anything else! See the point here???
But when we REMAIN IN THE LORD, we are PROVIDED for; we are LED through; we are AWAKE; we are ENABLED TO move forward as in FAITH, TRUST, and BELIEF IN HIM, we invoke HIS EVERY means TO maneuver the traps of the moment, the hour, the day!!!
If HE is NOT foremost in our thoughts, actions, and reactions, we have placed ourselves away from HIM, and so...
Evil, and wickedness HAVE been around since the beginning of humanity, and WILL increase before THE LORD comes to claim HIS own, and so, FASCINATION HAS to be tamed, and put into perspective, because there ARE dangers in being so drawn into any thing that is of this world!!!
ECCLESIASTES 1: 18...
Because in much wisdom there is much grief, and increasing knowledge results in increasing pain.
Solomon tried all things, and found them vanity. He found his searches after knowledge weariness, not only to the flesh, but to the mind. The more he saw of the works done under the sun, the more he saw their vanity; and the sight often vexed his spirit. He could neither gain that satisfaction to himself, nor do that good to others, which he expected.
Even the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom discovered man's wickedness and misery; so that the more he knew, the more he saw cause to lament and mourn. Let us learn to hate and fear sin, the cause of all this vanity and misery; to value Christ; to seek rest in the knowledge, love, and service of the Saviour.
1 CORINTHIANS 3: 18...
Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise.
To have a high opinion of our own wisdom, is but to flatter ourselves; and self-flattery is the next step to self-deceit.
The wisdom that worldly men esteem, is foolishness with God. How justly does he despise, and how easily can he baffle and confound it! The thoughts of the wisest men in the world, have vanity, weakness, and folly in them.
All this should teach us to be humble, and make us willing to be taught of God, so as not to be led away, by pretenses to human wisdom and skill, from the simple truths revealed by Christ.
Mankind are very apt to oppose the design of the mercies of God. Observe the spiritual riches of a true believer; All are yours, even ministers and ordinances. Nay, the world itself is yours. Saints have as much of it as Infinite Wisdom sees fit for them, and they have it with the Divine blessing. Life is yours, that you may have a season and opportunity to prepare for the life of heaven; and death is yours, that you may go to the possession of it. It is the kind messenger to take you from sin and sorrow, and to guide you to your Father's house.
Things present are yours, for your support on the road; things to come are yours, to delight you for ever at your journey's end. If we belong to Christ, and are true to him, all good belongs to us, and is sure to us. Believers are the subjects of his kingdom. He is Lord over us, we must own his dominion, and cheerfully submit to his command. God in Christ, reconciling a sinful world to himself, and pouring the riches of his grace on a reconciled world, is the sum and substance of the gospel.
Those OF THE LORD have work to do in the time we have, FOR HIS GLORY, and the greater good of all, which does NOT allow for us to be taken adrift in the waves of what is of this world! Let us learn to FOCUS on what is important, and to balance what comes via the world!!!
