HEBREWS 12: 29...
The reference is to Deuteronomy 4:24, and the special application of the description to one set of circumstances shews that this is not—like “God is light” and “God is love”—a description of the whole character of God, but an anthropomorphic way of expressing His hatred of apostasy and idolatry. Here the reference is made to shew why we ought to serve God with holy reverence and fear.
The object of the apostle here seems to be, to show that there was the same reason for fearing the displeasure of God under the new dispensation which there was under the old. It was the same God who was served. There had been no change in his attributes, or in the principles of his government. He was no more the friend of sin now than he was then; and the same perfections of his nature which would then lead him to punish transgression would also lead him to do it now. His anger was really as terrible, and as much to be dreaded as it was at Mount Sinai; and the destruction which he would inflict on his foes would be as terrible now as it was then.
The fearfulness with which he would come forth to destroy the wicked might be compared to a "fire" that consumed all before it; see Mark 9:44-46. The image here is a most fearful one, and is in accordance with all the representations of God in the Bible and with all that we see in the divine dealings with wicked people, that punishment; as inflicted by him is awful and overwhelming. So it was on the old world; on the cities of the plain; on the hosts of Sennacherib; and on Jerusalem - and so it has been in the calamities of pestilence, war, flood, and famine with which God has visited guilty people. By all these tender and solemn considerations, therefore, the apostle urges the friends of God to perseverance and fidelity in his service. His goodness and mercy; the gift of a Saviour to redeem us; the revelation of a glorious world; the assurance that all may soon be united in fellowship with the angels and the redeemed; the certainty that the kingdom of the Saviour is established on a permanent basis, and the apprehension of the dreadful wrath of God against the guilty, all should lead us to persevere in the duties of our Christian calling, and to avoid those things which would jeopardize the eternal interests of our souls.
This is important to the soul, to the moment, to the HOPE we hold in reaching THE KINGDOM! FEAR OF THE LORD REMAINS the beginning of our walk WITH HIM, through ALL in this time! Fear of THE LORD remains the beginning of Wisdom, for HE IS the perfecter of our souls, in which Wisdom is granted that we ARE enabled to withstand what is of this time, WITH HIM as our every resource, resolve, and renewal...
FEAR of THE LORD puts into perspective, wholly, the FACT, and TRUTH OF *GOD'S* SOVEREIGNTY OVER ALL, and EVERYTHING! When we fear HIM, we then, have nothing else to fear, BECAUSE WE KNOW HIS POWERFUL RULE OVER all else, and we TRUST HIM to LEAD us through the valley TO THE PROMISED land, HIS KINGDOM! Along this journey WILL arise all sorts of tests, trials, and tribulations AS the principalities of this time ATTEMPT to take what belongs to HIM, in which case, because HE has GIVEN us free will, many WILL be tempted, and WILL fall into the hands of deception! Those who CONTINUE to REGARD THE LORD AS THE PRINCIPLE POWER OVER ALL, and EVERYTHING will be GREATER equipped to withstand the awful onslaught of enmity during this sojourning...
The enemy was thrown down out of THE HEAVENS because of PRIDE; the kind of pride which places oneself OVER *GOD*, and denies that THE LORD IS THE ONLY POWER powerful enough to have CREATED, and MAINTAINED ALL IN CREATION, and CAN SURELY, as HE HAS proven, destroy it all! This pride somehow seeped into our ways of life, and has led us astray, but THANKS BE TO *GOD*, HE HAS A PLAN TO RESCUE us from what we do not fully understand, and from the dangers of the cunning enemy, IF we place REGARD where it belongs, IN THE LORD *GOD* ALMIGHTY! In this plan, HE has GIVEN us EVERY advantage to OVERCOME, from pride to falling prey to enmity, and all in between!!!
I FEAR THE LORD! HE IS ALL KNOWING, ALL POWERFUL, ALL SEEING, ALL in EVERYTHING! HE IS POWER PERSONIFIED, and DETESTS what denies HIM, and HIS WILL! HIS WRATH IS MORE THAN MIGHTY, MORE THAN JUSTIFIED, and when it is raging, NO ONE CAN SURVIVE, SAVE for those who fear, and LOVE HIM!!!
ALL of this world will be put into the fire of HIS rage! There will be NOTHING left of this world, and it's ways; ONLY THE LORD *GOD* AND HIS CHOSEN WILL REMAIN, and all which is RIGHT, JUST, and GOOD WILL RULE ETERNAL, VOID of ANY opposition whatsoever! There will be NO more of the same as is here on this planet in THE KINGDOM, instead, EVERMORE WILL BE LOVE, PEACE, and THE GLORY of the HOLINESS HE IS!!!
Just as HE flooded the world because of the evil which overtook it, HE WILL set this world ablaze! Anyone who doubts it cannot really believe in HIM! Evil is NOT of HIM, and did NOT come by HIM, instead, free will created it, and increased it!!!
CHRIST JESUS says HE did not come to condemn the world, instead to save it, JOHN 3: 17, which also, HAS been taken to use as excuse to continue in the ways of the world! HE DOESN'T HAVE TO CONDEMN US, OUR CHOICES IN OUR FREE WILL DO SO! INSTEAD, HE IS TELLING US that THERE IS A WAY, a BETTER WAY, to which HE WILL LEAD US, IF we FEAR, LOVE, and TRUST HIM! HE also said HE did not come to bring PEACE to the world, instead a sword; MATTHEW 10: 34; HE came to place between us, and hostility towards HIM, division of the most notable kind, the kind which PROVES HIS people TRUE OVER those who feign fear, and LOVE of HIM! The division of KNOWING, and DOING HIS WILL OVER that of the world, and STANDING STRONG IN RIGHTEOUSNESS NO MATTER what! THE SWORD IS THE WORD; THE WORD SEPARATES THE WORLD FROM THE SPIRIT of the DEVOUT human! FREE WILL then, IS INCLINED TOWARDS what is OF *GOD* OVER what is of the world, and thus, division BECAUSE ONLY those OF HIM shall DO HIS WILL!!!
There IS a fire raging, and the DAY OF THE LORD IS nearing! It IS the last days, and HIS KINGDOM IS at hand; this is true for EVERY generation BECAUSE THIS IS THE ONLY TIME WE HAVE TO SEEK THE LORD, and THE KINGDOM: the ONLY time we have to ACKNOWLEDGE our TRUTH which IS we are NOT flesh, but spirit! Fear not the world, nor anything of it, instead fear HIM who HAS THE POWER to destroy BOTH the body, and the soul; LUKE 12: 5!!!
