We KNOW WAY more can be done for ALL people who suffer, but... And isn't that a shame???
People NEED to readjust their opinions of the homeless, because in these days, it is a whole new ballgame, and believe it or not, a great number of them, at one time, had normal lives, and even some were considered well off! The economy, well actually, the fact that wages have not risen in proportion to the cost of living, has sent many to the streets, because it takes more than a meager wage to afford life these days! And so, there are huge numbers of Women with Children, Grandparents, ex-Military personnel, and other decent people whom have been FORCED into a very bad situation, AND a LOT of other people are as close to being in the same dire straits! Sure, there are those who have put themselves in such straits, but they, today, are the minority...
In California, tent cities are common, and quite over-populated; the result has not been good, as the bad element is too close to those who are good, but struggling! In these parts, the Winters are SO rugged, it is a miracle that so many survive them, especially since all the shelters are overwhelmed, and even little Children are only allowed to remain in them for a determined amount of time, and unlike California, there are no tent cities, in fact it is illegal to pitch a tent to sleep in, despite the temps well below zero...
EVERY single day, more people are put out into the streets because of circumstances beyond their control! The Government says that unemployment is down, but those stats are coming from unemployment offices where everyone has used up all their remaining extensions, and other faulty measures! In this state, unemployment is rampant, and not getting any better, plus, all sorts of programs, and jobs have disappeared, and LOTS of businesses are going under because of many factors; it is amazing to note long time businesses gone, or for sale...
Besides homelessness, hunger in America is increasing; even people who work two jobs, with Children, insurances, mortgages, rent, utilities, car costs, and so on, aren't able to provide enough meals a day to provide enough nourishment! While there are schools that have help in providing for Children who don't get enough to eat, there just isn't enough being done for the hungry, and not because no one is trying to help; it is that the numbers are growing all the time, along with the problems in providing for these Families. Then, if the hard working Parents aren't getting enough food, their health will deteriorate, especially when they are working two, or more jobs, and if they don't have the means, they might not have health insurance, and on, and on, and on, it goes...
Breaks my heart!!!
A large number of us are THAT close to being next to have to survive outside! It is frightening, and even worse for those who don't have FAITH, or know THE LORD!!!
ISAIAH 58: 6-8...
6+++“Is this not the fast which I choose,
To loosen the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the bands of the yoke,
And to let the oppressed go free
And break every yoke?
7+++“Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry
And bring the homeless poor into the house;
When you see the naked, to cover him;
And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
8+++“Then your light will break out like the dawn,
And your recovery will speedily spring forth;
And your righteousness will go before you;
The glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
THE LORD *GOD*, HAS LOTS to say about caring for those in need, even the homeless, in BOTH TESTAMENTS! Let us NEVER forget that HE IS THE LORD of the lowly, and HE GAVE us responsibility concerning the care of the Earth, and ALL which exists on it!!!
Recently, I read about a Church in Africa which had been housing hundreds of the homeless, who HAD to remove them because the Church building was suffering from housing so many, and they did not have the means to keep everyone sanitary! Well, know what? That Church should have been busy TEACHING people skills THAT they could use to retain the building, and have the means to retain sanitary! Isn't that part of the problem? I mean really; people NEED to KNOW HOW to MAKE a better life for themselves, and out of what they have to work with, SO IF they had been put to the task of rebuilding what was decaying, and installed means of sanitation, they would have learned, become healthier, and would have contributed to their dilemma!!!
There are abandoned empty buildings, motels, hotels, and more throughout this country, and it only makes sense that SOME of these COULD be turned into living quarters for those without! They could help in restoring them, maintaining them, and so forth, then they could be as self-sufficient as is feasible, growing their own vegetables, and so on, like creating a comm'UNITY' of their own, one of HOPE, and growth! Ah but the simple solutions are the most difficult for those who COULD allow help to be available, to grasp, or better yet, to justify!!!
Just thinking out loud, but homelessness REALLY bothers me, partly because it is lack of understanding THE LOVE which THE LORD COMMANDS of us, as IN LOVE, NOTHING suffers, ever!!!
Let us PRAY for those who suffer such hardships, and let us HELP as we can; such IS PLEASING TO THE LORD, diminishes the darkness, and SHINES OF HIS GLORY!!!

THE COLD WITHIN
By James Patrick Kinney
Six humans trapped by happenstance
In dark and bitter cold
Each one possessed a stick of wood,
Or so the story's told.
Their dying fire in need of logs,
The first woman held hers back.
For on the faces around the fire,
She noticed one was black.
The next man looking cross the way,
Saw one not of his church,
And couldn't bring himself to give
The fire his stick of birch.
The third one sat in tattered clothes,
He gave his coat a hitch.
Why should his log be put to use,
To warm the idle rich?
The rich man just sat back and thought
Of the wealth he had in store.
And how to keep what he had earned
From the lazy, shiftless poor.
The black man's face bespoke revenge
As the fire passed from sight,
For all he saw in his stick of wood
Was a chance to spite the white.
The last man of this forlorn group
Did naught except for gain
Giving only to those who gave
Was how he played the game.
The logs held tight in death's still hands
Was proof of human sin.
They didn't die from the cold without,
They died from ---THE COLD WITHIN.
