Any relationship, from having one with *GOD*, all the way down the line, to having to work with, or, interact with enemies, takes WORK/EFFORT, which, requires the knowledge, and, understanding, of the importance, of, SELFLESSNESS!!!
Let's begin this from a CHRISTIAN stance: *GOD* so LOVED the world (humanity) that HE gave HIS only begotten SON, to save us! This IS THE MOST VIABLE, TANGIBLE ACT of SELFLESSNESS, ever known to mankind! CHRIST JESUS ENDURED extensive suffering for us, both WHILE HE was alive, and, as HE took HIS place on the cross at CALVARY, ALL that WE might be rescued from the unrelenting deception, thus, sin, of this world! And, while we are grateful, truly, just how thankful are we, IF we CAN'T reciprocate HIS amazing gift, in adhering to HIS example, to the best of our abilities?!?!
LOVE IS THE LAW OF *GOD*, period! IN that LOVE, there is REGARD for community, meaning, for ALL people's of the Earth, at ALL times! IF we LIVED/EXISTED in the SELFLESSNESS of LOVE, as IS characterized, by the *GODHEAD*, there would be little chance of evil surviving for long, as LOVE would wipe out anything besides the wholesome goodness of itself; it would pay itself forward, always, as it does, anyway, despite the resistance of humanity, to become one with it! I am NOT indicating that we do not LOVE, we just don't LOVE in HOLINESS, thus, SELFLESSNESS, and, when we do, it is not complete, nor, lasting, thus, we MUST learn SELFLESSNESS, in order, for ALL of our relationships to become perfected, and, lasting, and, worthy!!!
There are many Scriptures speaking of SELFLESSNESS:
Let me list PART(1-12) of 1 PETER, Chapter 2, but, please, read the entire Chapter:
1/ Rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, insincerity, envy, and all slander;
2/ like newborn infants, long for pure spiritual milk so that through it you may grow into salvation,
3/ for you have tasted that the Lord is good.
4/ Come to him, a living stone, rejected by human beings but chosen and precious in the sight of God,
5/ and, like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
6/ For it says in scripture: "Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion, a cornerstone, chosen and precious, and whoever believes in it shall not be put to shame."
7/ Therefore, its value is for you who have faith, but for those without faith: "The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,"
8/ and "A stone that will make people stumble, and a rock that will make them fall." They stumble by disobeying the word, as is their destiny.
9/ But you are "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises" of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
10/ Once you were "no people" but now you are God's people; you "had not received mercy" but now you have received mercy.
11/ Beloved, I urge you as aliens and sojourners to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against the soul.
12/ Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that if they speak of you as evildoers, they may observe your good works and glorify God on the day of visitation.
When you came to know CHRIST JESUS, you became ONE with HIM, and, as HE commanded, ARE to live as would HE! Your salvation was bought with a HUGE price, HIS SACRED SACRIFICE! Let us be reminded by 1 CORINTHIANS 6:20, and, 1 CORINTHIANS 7:23...
20/ For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body.
23/ You have been purchased at a price. Do not become slaves to human beings...
CHRIST not only died for us, SELFLESSLY, HE EXISTED, in the flesh, SELFLESSLY, LEAVING us an EXAMPLE by which to pattern our lives, that SPIRITUAL MATURITY develops, that WE HONOUR, and, GLORIFY HIS GIFT, by our own thoughts, actions, and, reactions!!!
PHILIPPIANS 2:4..
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also the interests of others...
1 PETER 3:8...
Finally, all of you have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and, a humble mind...
JAMES 4:8...
Draw near to God, and, HE will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and, purify your hearts, you double-minded...
It IS TO OUR ADVANTAGE, in ENDLESS WAYS, TO HAVE A TRUE relationship with *GOD*, as, HE WILL ADD UNTO YOU, all sorts of BLESSINGS, and, to me, it ONLY MAKES SENSE to GIVE HIM, SELFLESSLY, the core of your being, as that IS WHAT HE HAS GIVEN UNTO YOU, by offering you salvation, safety, bestowment, and, eternal life!!!
Consider this; WHEN you are SELFLESS, you are sowing, thus, reaping; and, when in *GOD'S* favour, what you reap from your sowing, can be more than ten-fold, more than a hundred-fold, it can exceed imagination! As it has been said, you get what you give, SELFLESSNESS has PROVEN this immeasurably, and, since long ago!!!
Personally, I have never been very selfish, so, it is easier for me, and, makes more sense, than it does to many! Those of you whom ARE selfish, there IS time, and, you DO hold the capacity to become SELFLESS; it is not that difficult to do, and, like building FAITH, and, other states of a Virtuous character, practice provides production!!!
This is a long post, so, we are going to have to continue, at another time, concerning SELFLESSNESS! Until then, just read, and, meditate upon the empowerment of living SELFLESSLY!!!
